Good friends and good food make good memories (in order).
Starting from Wodonga, we make our way via Jingelic to Tumbarumba. There onwards we head to Talbingo for lunch (the Chinese food after a long ride is more than a pleasant surprise) via Tumut. Post lunch we take the B72 to Cooma. This is the best part of the trip - Indisputably THE BEST section of roads to cover on 2 wheels in Australia. The pushy peddlers can challenge us but no, you are wrong when you tuck close to a 100 horses within your crotch, this one comes on top. Last leg is Cooma to Canberra for the night - tiring, but it's all for the food at Le Monsoon.
Dinner at Le Monsson, Canberra - https://lemonsoon.au/
Day 2, we head out to Jindabyne for lunch via Cooma. Down the hill via Khancoban to Corryong, Tallangatta and back to base in Wodonga.
What a trip !! Our longest ride until date and we decided to touch our favourite destination again - MARLO !!.
Day 1: Wodonga - Tumbarumba - Tumut - Cooma
Day 2: Cooma - Bega - Pambulla - Delegate - Marlo
Day 3: Marlo - Bruthen - Omeo - Mitta - Tangam - Wodonga
Decided to take the Wives for a day trip to King River Brewery near Whitfield. Journey started at Wodonga and we reached the destination via Beechworth.
Hell of a rain gave us some unwanted thrills and would be a PTSD Trigger for the girls ever after,
Quick day trip to Mount Buller via Mrytleford, Whitfield and Mansfield. The return was via Wangaratta and M31. We generally donot prefer to take the freeway but time constraint pushed us this time.
Lunch was at Kooroora - Yum!!.
Before the trip started, I met a famous athlete from Wodonga who chose to speak to myself in Hindi. I introduced myself and told him that my origins were from Chennai. He spoke Hindi again. Hmm !. There was no escalation of events and we departed in good terms.
Once I escaped famous people, we decided hit Mt Beauty. Leaving wodonga, we ride via Beechworth and to Myrtleford through the Stanley foresst. From Mrytleford, we head across to Mt Beauty through Bright. Ride back home via Tallangatta & Granya.
Alternatively, the Granya loop could be skipped to reach home early and surprise the wife and kids.
Lunch was self served - sustainable - environmently friendly. We started with Hot Hot Filter Coffee and Samosas at Mrytleford. Lunch special was Pani Puri (as mains) and Chur Mur(as dessert) - Mt Beauty. No cutlery was wasted as it was a BYO Cutlery and Cups event. 3 people finished off 50 puries @ ~ 16.333 puries each. YUM !
The Origins Loop is one of my Fvourite trips. It starts in Wodonga and proceeds into the Kiewa Valley's winding roads along the Hume Wier. We then head towards Corryong and into the Mointains to reach Cabramurra. Post lunch at the Station there, we come downhill and into Tumbarumba.
We then hug the river back into Wodonga via Mt Alfred, Jingelic and Granya.
An All day ride with heaps of twisties. Leaving Wodonga, the ride takes us over to Falls Creek via Mrytleford and Bright. We quickly take some pics and come down the hill to Omeo via Dinner Plain. After a sumptuous lunch at the Omeo Pub, we head back over to Mitta, Eskdale, Tangambalanga and back home to Wodonga.
Not ridable June - August.
Donot take notice of the Road Warriers in their Spandex.
Similar to the Chills #1, but this time it's up Hotham. Ride back fallows the same route from Omeo via Mitta. Take time to visit and chat with Leonie Pendergast at the Clock shop at Omeo. The Cuckoo Clock shop, specializing in handcrafted German clocks, is located at Omeo's main street.
Not ridable June - August.
What happens in Marlo, Stays in Marlo. Our first big trip with the adventure taking us far away from the comfortable valley and into the unknowns.
We left Wodonga and reached Hothem comfortably for Lunch. There on, the journey continued onto Omeo and next stop was Bruthen. This leg is one of the best motorable road for the fasties on 2 wheels. From Bruthen, we made way to our night stop at Marlo. We enjoyed the evening at the Pub, with all sorts of cocktails and enough alcohol to actually blow into the fuel tank next morning to give the motorcycles a boost.
Next morning after having brekkie at local cafe and taking multiple dumps each to clear off our bowels, we headed towards Cann River and rolled to Bombala for Lunch at the RSL (why do we need a Identification to purchase Food???). Return home was via Cooma, Jindabyne, Corryong and Wodonga.
We reached very late and the ride in the night from Corryong to Wodonga was truly terrifying. Corryong region is a bug factory after sunset.
A great day trip preferable in Summer when the days are long. Else, be prepared to see nothing and run into all sorts of road kill or be killed yourself.
Starting from Wodonga, the ride takes us to Tumbarumba via Towong. Then we head north to Tumut. Be dazzled from here on as we ride the B72 until Kiandra. Then we take all the twisties to Cabramurra and down to Khancoban. From here on it's a fairly easy ride to Wodonga via Corryong.
If you want to make this any longer, take a guided tour and a dip into the thermal pool at the Yarrangobilly Cave Complex.
In Planning..
Day 1: Wodonga - Gapsted - oxley - Tolmie - Heyfield - Lakes Entrance
Day 2: Lakes Entrance - Orbost - Delegate - Mount Darragh - Pambulla - Tathra - Steeple Flat - Cooma
Day 3: Cooma - Tumut - Tumbarumba - Jingelic - Talgarno - Wodonga
Planning for a winter ride. We are not sane.
Albury - Granya - Tinteldra - Cabramurra - Jagumba - Corryong - Tallangatta - Wodonga
This one is a must do. Has all the thrills of riding within the valley and in the high country on one of the best roads in the country - Snowy Mountains Hwy.
Wodonga - Tallangatta - Tinteldra - Cabramurra - Tumut - Tumbarumba - Jingelic - Wodonga
Looking forward to complete this run in Sep-24. Leaving Wodonga, we head towards Thornton for lunch via Mohyu & Mansfield. We then head towards Neerim and plan is to spend the night at Traralgon.
What happens in Traralgon. What happens to us at Traralgon stays at Traralgon. Godspeed.
Next morning (if we are not turned into Munchurian), we head towards Omeo via Briagolong and Brurthen. Finishing Lunch (Fresh Air Cafe, Omeo), we travel back home ascending Hotham, down to Mrytleford, Yak and Wodonga.
